Seeking my lapiz earrings

13 01 2010

I’ve written before about the crazy stealing people who robbed me of almost all of my jewellery (my work and inherited pieces and gifts) a few years ago. Well, just the other day I suddenly remember a pair of earrings I had made at the Goldsmiths School in Brisbane (as part of the longer course I did there many moons ago).

The project was for bezel setting. The teachers at the school had a wonderful range of gems for sale for students from which I selected the lapiz lazuli pair and went about designing something for them.

It turns out back then I did my best doodling and idea generation at work (my ‘career work’ isn’t too creative, it’s heavily math-based and computer-centric). Below is the initial sketch that turned into the above earrings.

This was the first time I’d worked with gold… oh and she was lovely!

As part of our practice at the school, we were required to produce technical and artistic drawings (below) of our pieces after they were constructed. This was the part I enjoyed most – I like drawing from life.

If you ever happen to see these long-lost beloved earrings anywhere, please let me know!
