Two questions

17 11 2013

Please tell me if you know the answers:

1. unless I’m suffering from online-blindness, I cannot find any media for ‘Fresh!‘ this year (the annual survey of graduate work that has been at Craft for many years; I couldn’t make last year, but these are the stories for 2011, 2010, 2009) … is it not happening?

2. again, perhaps I’m not using the right search terms, but I cannot find any listing for an exhibition of RMIT 1st and 2nd year Gold & Silversmithing students (other years’ stories 2011, 2010, 2009) … is it not happening?

Update (21st November): please see the comments (from the most excellent Katie Jayne Britchford) for the full answers, but in short:
1. yes it will be happening early in the new year
2. no, it’s not happening

Hi Karen. I haven’t checked for the 1st and 2nd years but I see that the RMIT graduate show is on at 45 Downstairs from December 3rd. That wasn’t easy to find either!

Thank you Verity!
I have the Graduate and Honours shows listed on the calendar … but the mystery of the 1st & 2nd year group continues!

HI Karen, FRESH! is still happening at Craft. From what I am aware they are taking their time this year to select and instead of rushing to put an exhibition together they are going to have a show sometime early next year! a new formula…thats about as much as I know 🙂 Not sure about the 1st & 2nd year show either…

There is no 1st and 2nd year show possibly to do with the machinations of rmit. rmit is having a massive campus wide exhibition across all the studio areas.
You will find
A. OBP(gold and silversmithing) in building 2 on level 2, https://www.facebook.com/events/654870997898464/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
please note there are numerous inaccuracies regarding G&S work in this document. also I believe the school has taken the liberty of displaying some of the 1st and 2nd year work in numerous showcases to be found on level 1 and 2 of building 2
B. OBP(ceramics and gold and silversmithing) at first site gallery show is named oomph!. This show also features maggie fairweather award recipient Thomas O’hara (whose work you admired last year at ‘as above, so below’)
https://www.facebook.com/events/150693555125758/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
and (i hope)C. MFA(gold and silversmithing) in building 49. This exhibition opens 27th of november at 5.30pm and continues through to 6th december. There is a crossover with the Gold and Silvermithing show (for 3rd year and honours graduates + the single ceramics studio section honours graduate) at 45 downstairs
https://www.facebook.com/events/748619045152181/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
on rmit’s website there should be a link to at least some of these exhibitions.
