I’ve just spotted (via facebook) an article that states: “The antimicrobial properties of silver have been known for thousands of years…” and new research “… suggest that silver could be used to enhance the effectiveness of antibiotics against drug-resistant bacteria.”
Wow.
Specifically, when the researchers “… supplemented antibiotics with a small amount of silver, …, the combination killed up to 1,000 times more bacteria than the antibiotics did on their own.”
Don’t go eating silver though, it can be toxic.
I thought it was interesting to know that the material we regularly play with could be so useful.
