5th March: Pieces of Eight, Kate Rhode ‘Ornament Crimes‘ [link]; “Her solo exhibition ‘Ornament Crimes’ is a tongue in cheek response to the famous 1913 essay by Austrian Bauhaus architect Adolf Loos. In this moralising essay, Loos discussed the evils of overtly decorative design as something that can corrupt society. Risking the wrath of Loos, Rohde looks to the Baroque and Rococo periods and draws on their lush visual language creating an exhibition of excessive sculptural forms, vessels and wearable works.“; until 13th April

5th March: Studio 20/17 (Sydney), Melinda Young ‘the world is a pearl‘ [link]; “…continues Melinda Young’s fascination with the quirks of her immediate surroundings; the things and people that inhabit them. For this exhibition she has sifted through collections of domestic items and the materials in her studio – old ideas are revived, new jewellery has been born from the detritus of old work and discarded objects. The results are an intimate collection of works that are a meditation on the rhythms, repetitions and colours of daily life in the midst of Sydney’s urban sprawl.“; until 23rd March

Featuring the work of some of Melbourne’s most exciting artists and jewellery practitioners Signature Style will be a significant addition to the emerging discourse around collaboration and contemporary craft. Collaboration poses a very different method of working – by its very nature, collaboration eschews individual artistic identity in favour of some kind of ‘third’ position.Signature Style will examine new methodologies of working and ‘work’, thinking through the potentials of collaboration within craft and design.“; until 27th April
