Part B ‘Steal This!’ @ Hosier Lane

22 11 2010

As I mentioned last week, the jewellers from Part B (new site and blog) were holding a one-night-only exhibition in Hosier Lane in Melbourne, called ‘Steal This!’. Sadly I had a prior appointment that meant I couldn’t go myself, but my lovely friend Vetti (from VettiLiveinNorthcote) went along and has been super-kind to write a guest post for me. Over to Vetti…

“Quelle suprise! A group of jewellers not just giving work away, but actually asking you to steal? Oh yes! Part B is no ordinary artists collective, andSteal This!‘ is no ordinary show.

On Tuesday November 16th, Hosier Lane was transformed into an open-air jewellery box. Magnetised works were attached to walls, posts, grilles and doors, just waiting for passers-by.

The crowd was diverse, and many people were challenged by the “help yourself” vibe of the occasion. Many of them may never attend a more traditional maker event, or feel comfortable interacting with a large number of artisan crafted items in more formal circumstances. The laneway filled with happy people trying on, playing, and chattering.

Congratulations to Part B – for an engaging and innovative group event!
Can’t wait to see what they do next…”

Jewellery at auction

21 11 2010

There are a few jewellery auctions coming up in Melbourne.

Leonard Joel on 4th December:

  • coral Art Deco brooch and earrings [link]
  • paste set Art Deco necklace [link]
  • a fire-opal ring [link]

Phillips on 6th December – though I didn’t see anything I wanted here.

Not strictly in Melbourne, but one can’t go past a Sotheby’s jewellery auction… this one, from the collection of the Duchess of Windsor; including a totally gorgeous Cartier 30’s clock, sundial suite [lot 13, link].
