1st December: Michaela Bruton ‘Oomph Trajectories‘ – new drawings and fine metalwork, Sofitel Melbourne lobby; “In 2009, Fresh! winner Michaela Bruton received a professional development package that included an exhibition at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins. Oomph Trajectories investigates the illusionary possibilities of repetitive line, through mark making and hand working of wire. In this work Michaela examines how movement and rhythm can be generated through repetitive pattern, and whether this can create an illusion of life or ‘oomph’ in otherwise inanimate forms. The essence of time and hand made processes is reflected through works that pursue repetitious detailing.“; until 1st March 2011

1st December: last day for application New Artist in Residence in Amsterdam: Studio Rian de Jong [link; thanks to Kevin Murray for the information]; “The Françoise van den Bosch Foundation challenges every jewellery artist to come up with a brilliant idea for a two month residency in May and June 2011 in Amsterdam. The studio is made available by jeweller Rian de Jong and her partner Herman Marres. The Françoise van den Bosch Foundation is responsible for the policy and the choice of the artist. While the idea of ‘Place’ can be interpreted in many ways, within this project artists and participants have been guided by one common definition and directive – to create works commenting on, materially connected to and reflective of their own notion of ‘place’ in geographic and personal terms.  Led by three makers from Craft Victoria’s professional membership base, students and emerging communities within Bendigo and Castlemaine have been encouraged to explore and develop their creative skills via the production of jewellery pieces constructed from non-precious material found within their own localities.  Workshops and planning days have focused on intergenerational sharing of culture and knowledge and have facilitated community strengthening benefits to participants and greater local population. The project has inspired artistic excellence and innovation amongst all participants as well as providing a unique opportunity for both students and emerging community members to work with established professional artisans.“; until 9th January 2011
