all month

  • Melbourne Museum ‘Titanic – the Artefact Exhibition‘ [link]; I’m in two minds about seeing this, as their Pompeii exhibition was pitched more at a ‘populist’ level and I didn’t find it enjoyable at all, and also I’m not sure if there will be any decorative arts / jewellery; but I may try to see it out of curiosity anyway; until 17th October

1st June 2010: last day for application to New Traditional Jewellery in the Netherlands; “the biennial international design competition New Traditional Jewellery is calling for entries for their 2010 event. Jewellery designers from all over the world are invited to respond to the theme ‘True colours’.” [link]

3rd June: Gaffa Keeper Gallery ‘re:production‘; curated by Zoe Brand; “Adorning almost every surface of a room, re:production is an exhibition of … images that document the practices of a diverse range of contemporary jewellery makers. By removing the ‘end product’ of a work and displaying only the documentation in the form of a series of images, the viewer is given a different perspective from which to understand further the workings of contemporary jewellery practice“; it has its own blog and I’m part of this exhibition too!; until 29th June

5th June: Metalab, David Neale’s ‘Some and None: Jewellery as Graphics‘ [link; kit and caboodle]; I would really love to be able to go and visit this, as I’ve developed quite an attachment to David’s pieces – any chance of this coming to Melbourne David?; until 24th June or 1st July (depending on which site is correct!)

15th June: last day for application to Boulder Opal Jewellery Design Award [CraftAustralia]; “The competition aims at showcasing the modern opal jewel through the limitless creative energies of our designers / jewellers.“; unfortunately, I’ve been unable to find a 2010 version of the competition information/application, the Queensland Boulder Opal Association website has only information from 2009, and another site had some 2010 information but the application was from 2007; so if you want to find out more, I would suggest calling or emailing the association for more information
