The last few months have seen me very busy working on a group of brooches for Studio 20/17 Annual Winter Brooches exhibition. At this stage, I do not know which pieces may be selected to show, but I have sent six for selection (two groups of three) all using paper woven with fine silver.

'Time' group; amended copyright notice: not to be reproduced without permission
The first group is called ‘Time‘ and explores various measures and the communication of time. These pieces are quite personal and reasonably large (and arguably difficult to wear). Clockwise from top left:
- ‘Time: Life‘
- ‘Time: Europe‘
- ‘Time: Day‘

'Quotes' group; amended copyright notice: not to be reproduced without permission
The second group ‘Quotes‘ was created as a kind of counterbalance to the first group: the pieces are smaller, and I think less personal (ie. about me) and therefore more accessible to others. It brought a much-needed lightness to my making at the time, and it felt less of a burden to make these than the intensely personal ‘Time’ group. From left:
- ‘For Keith: let me walk before they make me run‘ [from the rocker himself, Keith Richards]
- ‘For Milan: optimism is the opium of the people‘ [from ‘The Joke’ by Milan Kundera]
- ‘For Anais: life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage‘ [from writings by Anais Nin]
I’ll share more about each of these soon.
‘Winter Brooches‘ in at Studio 20/17 (Sydney) from 4th May to 5th June 2010 [link].
