Tertiary Open Days

5 08 2009

For those considering their options for studing gold and silversmithing in Melbourne (in a formal setting), the Open Day programmes are a useful way of getting a look at the facilities of each place of study and perhaps meeting some teaching staff and current students.

  • RMIT: 9th August 2009 [link]
  • Box Hill Tafe: 23rd August 2009 [link]
  • NMIT : 1st September 2009 [link]
also at the LaTrobe University Open Day 30th August 2009
  • sorry, Monash University held their open day before I wrote this [link]

Nationally, other well-known institutions for studying gold and silversmithing include (though I’m pretty sure there are more places to study):

  • (Sydney) University of New South Wales, College of Fine Arts [link]
  • (Canberra) Australian National University [link]
  • (Wagga Wagga) Charles Sturt University [link]
  • (Perth) Curtin University [link]
  • (Brisbane) Griffith University, Queensland College of Art [link]

I’ll write more about the relative strengths of the Melbourne study institutions another time… but any comments from readers about their experience of studying, and to add to the above list of places to study, are most welcome!

Update (6th August 2009): be sure to read the comments attached to this post for more information…

Can I add another Open Day!
The Design Centre Enmore Open Day is on Saturday 12 September from 10-4. The Jewellery workshop will be open and we will have teaching staff and students from the Jewellery and Object Design and Jewellery Manufacture Departments on hand to answer questions. There will also be an exhibition of student work and some fun fundraising jewels to purchase with proceeds going towards the students end of year exhibition.

Thanks and all the best
