‘No Vacancy’ Market

15 05 2009

I wasn’t sure whether there would be a significant jewellery focus at this market (at ‘No Vacancy‘ gallery at QV), but thought it is always worth visiting anyway – better to visit just in case, for it would be bad if such opportunities for makers were to suffer from lack of patronage!

The illustrations were really interesting, but the three stalls that caught my attention were:

  • dani m, handmade jewellery

  • Cserpant art, brooches and drawings – these are wickedly delightful! The text accompanying the work says: “Cserpant is a Melbourne based artist. She likes to draw pictures of spooky little Victorian girls holding axes, as well as glamorous flapper girls, youthful, fresh, beautifully naive creatures, on the cusp of lives of licentiousness, amorality and absolute sensual debauchery.” Fabulous! I particularly liked the ‘Hold your Heart‘ brooch.

  • sneak design, clothing – who designed one of my most favourite t-shirts (a bustled birdcage for bi-planes)

The market has also been reviewed here; and is on until 17th May 2009.
